Ord basin

The Ord Basin (ger .: Ord Basin ) is a sedimentary basins in the Northern Territory of Australia .

In the sedimentary basin there are about 3 km thick layers of rock that formed from the Neoproterozoic to the Carboniferous 540 to 360 million years ago. The rocks present in the basin come from volcanic processes or are limestone , claystone and sandstone . The sedimentary basin partially overlays the Kalkaindji Province , the Birrindudu Basin and Wolfe Basin .

The basin contains significant uranium deposits that have been mineralized in sandstone deposits and investigations are underway for oil and natural gas .

There are small deposits of copper and possibly diamond , lead and zinc deposits .
