from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Birrindudu Basin (English: Birrindudu Basin ) is a sedimentary basin in the Northern Territory of Australia .

In the sedimentary basin there are rock layers up to 10 km thick , which were formed from the Paleoproterozoic to the Mesoproterozoic between 1780 and 1550 million years ago. The rocks in the basin are arenite , conglomerate , claystone , chert , limestone and sandstone .

The Birrindudu Basin partially overlies the Pine Creek Orogenes in the north and is overlaid by the Wiso and Daly Basins in the east, the Ord Basin in the southwest, the Wolfe Creek Basin in the west, and Victoria Basin in the north. Further south it is overlaid by the Tanami region and in the northwest it is in contact with the Bonaparte Basin and the Halls Creek Orogen .

This sedimentary basin has a diamond show at Timber Creek and small lead and gold showings . It is believed that there are additional diamond, metal and petroleum deposits there.
