Order of the baobab
The Order of the Baobab ( German Order of the Baobab Tree ) is a South African Order of Merit that was founded in 2002 and is awarded to civilians by the South African President. It is awarded in the categories of business , science and volunteering .
The order is named after the baobab tree and consists of three elements: the baobab tree, which in traditional African culture stands for longevity; a regular Neuneck that the nine provinces symbolizes South Africa and the various ways of contribution to society, and a ring of bark of the baobab.
Order classes
- Supreme Counselor of the Order of the Baobab (SCOB) in gold
- Grand Counselor of the Order of the Baobab (GCOB) in silver
- Counselor of the Order of the Baobab (COB) in bronze.
All three classes are worn around the neck as a medal , and there is also a lapel pin .
