Wiseman Nkuhlu
Wiseman Lumkile Nkuhlu (born February 5, 1944 in Cala , Eastern Cape , South Africa ) is a South African education politician and manager.
Youth and education
Nkulhu was a member of a banned political organization in which he attended meetings. He was arrested and spent two years on Robben Island . After his release, he worked as an employee of a gold mine . In 1967 he began studying at the University College of Fort Hare , from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce . He continued his studies at New York University , where he earned an MBA . A certificate course followed at the University of Cape Town , which he completed as a Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA). In 1976 he qualified as South Africa's first black auditor .
Career
In 1977, Nkulhu began his career as an auditor at Transkei University . After various positions in the university administration, he became vice chancellor and principal of the University of Transkei in 1987 . He held the office until 1991. He then switched to business and was the managing director of various companies, such as Standard Bank , South African Breweries , Old Mutual , Tongaat Hulett and BMW South Africa . Until 1997, Nkulhu was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Worldwide African Investment Holdings , and until 2000 of the Development Bank of Southern Africa . From 1998 to 2002 he was elected chairman of the Council on Higher Education .
With his appointment as economic advisor to South African President Thabo Mbeki in 2000, he was Secretary General of the New Partnership for Africa's Development . Since leaving office as a business advisor in 2004, Nkulhu has returned to work as a manager in various South African companies. In the financial crisis from 2007 onwards, he was an advisor to the Global Financial Crisis Advisory Panel . Nkulhu is a professor at Fort Hare and Transkei Universities . He is married to Nondima Nkulhu, née Mahlulo, and has four children.
