Cala [ k|ala ] is a city in the South African province of Eastern Cape (Eastern Cape). It is the administrative seat of the municipality Sakhisizwe and is located in the district of Chris Hani .
geography
In 2011 Cala had 14,520 inhabitants (census). Most of the residents speak isiXhosa . To the east is a 1630 meter high mountain that belongs to the Cala Mountains . The Tsomo River flows to the west. Nearby towns are Lady Frere 53 kilometers southwest, Elliot 28 kilometers northeast, and Ngcobo 35 kilometers southeast. The Cala Pass is on the road towards Elliot.
history
Cala was part of the Transkei homeland until 1994 . Cala is the isiXhosa word for “adjacent”, for the mountainous landscape on which Cala lies.

The town is on the R410 highway that connects Cala with Lady Frere and Elliot.
