Order of the Nation

The Order of the Nation is a Jamaican award that was originally only given to Jamaican governors-general . It is the second highest honor awarded by the Jamaican state. The Order was introduced in 1973 with an amendment to the National Honors and Awards Act . In 2002 it was decided to award the medal to all Prime Ministers who have not already been honored as Jamaica's national hero .

The motto of the order is " One Nation Under God " (German: " One Nation Under God "). The members are entitled to wear the medal and are also authorized to add the letters ON (so-called post-nominal ) after their name . The salutation for the members as well as for their spouses is " The Most Honorable ".

The medal of the Order of the Nation consists of a twelve-pointed breast star with the Jamaican national coat of arms in gold on a background of red enamel in the middle . The coat of arms is surrounded by the order's motto in gold letters on a green enameled background. There is a golden pineapple between each point of the star . The medal is worn on a wide, shiny red silk sash with narrow green stripes on the edge.
