Orelha Negra (German: Black Ear) is a Portuguese soul / trip-hop band from the Lisbon area .
It is a project of musicians known from bands like Cool Hipnoise , Oioai , Sam the Kid and others. In particular, the music and appearance of the soul musicians of the 1960s and 1970s are orientation points for the band , which is evident in the music and the samples used , but also in the cover design , appearance and other things. For example, the band logo is based on the Stax Records logo.
The group was nominated for Best Portuguese Act at the 2010 MTV Europe Music Awards . They also perform live, for example in 2011 on the Optimus Alive! -Festival, or in January 2012 in the renowned Centro Cultural de Belém .
With their debut album in 2010, they caught some attention in the country's music scene. The album reached fourth place on the Portuguese sales charts.
