Michel Chapuis , Marina Tchebourkina

The organ of the Palace Chapel of Versailles is in the form of an altar organ above the high altar and was built between 1709 and 1710 by Robert Clicquot and Julien Tribuot . From 1995-2010 Michel Chapuis was titular organist here , assisted by Marina Tchebourkina .

history

To complete the fifth chapel in Versailles, Louis XIV ordered an organ from Robert Clicquot and Julien Tribuot . The architect of the chapel, Jules Hardouin-Mansart and Robert de Cotte , designed the housing . Due to a considerable change in the plans by the king, all plans for the organ had to be changed at short notice. The instrument had to be rearranged in order to do justice to the new acoustics . The organ was inaugurated on June 8, 1710 by Jean-Baptiste Buterne , the Royal Organist .

The instrument survived the turmoil of the French Revolution, even if it was hit hard and at the time of Louis-Philippe was only playable to a limited extent. Was appointed Aristide Cavaillé-Coll for a new building, which also anfertigte this. He carefully reused the pipe work of the Clicquot organ for another chapel in the castle. In 1938 the Cavaille-Coll organ no longer corresponded to the neo-classical taste of the time and the organ was transferred to a Breton church. The palace chapel was rebuilt by Victor Gonzalez in the contemporary orgue néoclassique style .

When the restoration of the chapel was due in the 1990s, considerations were also given to the construction concept of the organ. It was decided to replicate the Clicquot organ, i. H. a classic French baroque organ, with 34  stops on four manuals and pedal by Jean Loup Boisseau and Bertrand Cattiaux using two percent of the historical material. The old play cupboard was still preserved and was faithfully reconstructed.
