The organ of the Camminer Dom is a new building by Władysław Cepka from 2004. It is a reconstruction of the organ by Michael Berigel from 1672, whose baroque prospectus and some small parts have been preserved.

history

First organs

The oldest record of an organ in the Camminer Cathedral is known for the year 1382. In 1433 an organist was named. During the Reformation in Pomerania in 1535, the organ was being repaired.

Adrian Zickermann (Sickermann) built a new instrument with 60 registers and 2660 pipes in 1580. Comprehensive repairs were necessary as early as 1594 to 1597. In 1628 renovations took place with a change in the disposition and new pipes. In a fire in the tower in 1630, the organ was probably also damaged.

New building 1670–1672 by Michael Berigel

The governor Ernst Bogislaw von Croÿ planned to build a new organ. In 1669 Friedrich Breyer was initially commissioned, but he then resigned. In 1670 Michael Berigel started building the new instrument. It was completed in 1672. It was heavily influenced by the organ of Stralsund's Marienkirche , which his father-in-law Friedrich Stellwagen had built, and which Berigel must have worked on, if you take his detailed knowledge into account , both in terms of the sound concept and the structure of the work and the design of the prospectus . Croÿ is said to have paid 4000 Thaler for the construction, which corresponded to a value of 90 kilograms of pure silver.

The sculptors who made the case decorations were Martin Edelber ( veil works , bas-reliefs, consoles, etc.) and Johann Grundman from Frankfurt (Oder) (eleven sculptures, among others). The first concert took place on the first Sunday in Advent 1672. Grundman's sculptures were not attached to the plinths until 1683. That year the painter Johann Schmidt from Stargard was commissioned to set the organ prospectus and to gild and silver it. In 1692, after the death of the founder, Croÿ, his coat of arms was attached to the organ console.

From the Berigel organ from 1672, the following have been preserved to this day:

  • (modified) housing (remnants of the rear walls in the upper part of the Rückpositiv , inner side walls of the pedal towers)
  • Case ornamentation and color frame
  • Prospect pipes from the main plant (Principal 8 ′)
  • Prospect whistles from the Rückpositiv (Principal 4 ′)
  • Prospect whistles from the Oberwerk (Principal 4 ′)
  • Prospect whistles from the pedal (Principal 16 ′) in the north pedal side

Modifications and repairs 1696–1848

The first corrections were made by Philipp Treikel as early as 1696. In 1726 Held was busy with repairs. Another took place in 1787.

Plans to rebuild the instrument in the style of the organ movement were not implemented because of the outbreak of the Second World War. In 1941 repairs were carried out again by Felix Grüneberg. At the end of the war, when the front approached the city, plans were made to dismantle the instrument and move it to the interior of the empire. However, this was no longer implemented. In 1945 the instrument was seriously damaged, 90 percent of the organ work was destroyed.

After the end of the war, the baroque character of the instrument was restored by Kurt Berendt. The missing pipes were added. In 1964 extensive renovations were carried out by Zygmunt Kamiński. In 1992 he proposed the greatest possible reconstruction of the Beriegel organ from 1672, but this was not implemented.

New building 2003-2004 by Władysław Cepka

From 2003 to 2004 extensive renovation work was carried out by Władysław Cepka, which amounted to a reconstructed new building. A new gaming table was installed, the previous one is in the cathedral's museum. During the work, the case construction was damaged and the modern interior was mounted on a steel girder structure behind the old case front with the historic prospect pipes. The disposition is based on the organ from 1672.
