The oriental squill ( Amsonia orientalis ) is a species of the dog venom family (Apocynaceae).
features
The oriental squill is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 30 to 60 centimeters. In young leaves , the edge of the leaf is often covered with splaying hairs. The edge of the calyx lobes is often ciliated. The corolla tube is 10 to 12 (rarely up to 15) millimeters long and bare on the outside. The partial fruits are bellows-like and 3.5 to 5 (rarely up to 8) centimeters long.
The flowering period extends from June to August.
Occurrence
The oriental squill occurs in Greece and the northwest of Turkey in winter-humid locations near the sea.

The oriental squill is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens.
