Origin Records

Origin Records is an American jazz record label based in Seattle . It was founded in 1997 by drummer John Bishop , who wanted to use it to publish music from his own band projects as well as other artists he worked with. With the support of his former student Matt Jorgensen , the label had a website in 1998; The sub-label OA2 Records was created in 2002 and Origin Classical in 2008. In addition, Origin has been producing the Ballard Jazz Festival in Seattle since 2003 , at which the concert series The Brotherhood of the Drum , The Ballard Jazz Walk and, from 2008, the Jazz Pancake Brunch have been realized. Trumpeter Chad McCullough joined the Origin team in 2006 as A&R and production manager. In 2009 Origin was named Best Jazz Label of the Year by JazzWeek magazine .
