Matt Jorgensen

Matt Jorgensen (* 13. October 1972 ) is an American jazz - drummer , composer , bandleader and arranger .

Jorgensen is a member of the Seattle jazz scene . Between 1992 and 2002 he lived in New York City . He worked with his formations Matt and +451 , the latter with saxophonist Mark Taylor, Ryan Burns (Fender Rhodes) and Phil Sparks (bass). With +451 , which is mainly active in the north-west of the USA and was recognized as the best acoustic jazz group by Earshot Jazz Magazine in 2003, he released five albums on Origin Records . Jorgensen has also worked as an accompanist or arranger in productions by Eric Alexander , Peter Bernstein , Vincent Herring , Bobby Shew , George Colligan , Reggie Workman , Tim Ries and Chuck Leavell .

Jorgensen is also the founder and one of the artistic directors of the Ballard Jazz Festival . The 2010 album Tattooed by Passion reflects the correspondences between Jorgensen's approach to composing and the abstract painting art of his father-in-law Dale Chisman, who died in 2008 and a successful artist in the US state of Colorado.
