Chuck Deardorf

Chuck Deardorf (born April 3, 1954 ) is an American jazz musician ( bass , bass guitar ) and university teacher.

Life

Deardorf has been part of the Seattle music scene since the mid-1980s and has since performed primarily in the northwestern United States. In the course of his career he has accompanied guest musicians such as Chet Baker , Kenny Barron , Kenny Burrell , George Cables , Larry Coryell , Art Farmer , Mel Lewis , Abbey Lincoln , Howard Roberts , Jimmy Rowles , Zoot Sims , Bucky Pizzarelli , Bud Shank , Joe Williams and vocalists like Kurt Elling or Ernestine Anderson . In 2011 Origin Records released his disc debut Transparence , which he recorded with Bruce Forman (guitar), Hans Teuber and Richard Cole (saxophone), Mark Ivester and Gary Hobbs (drums) and the pianists Jovino Santos Neto and Bill Mays.

Deardorf is Professor and Head of the Jazz Department at the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. He performs regularly with the Brazilian composer and pianist Jovino Santos-Neto and the Deardorf Peterson Group . Deardorf is married to singer and author Kelly Harland .
