Orobanche caesia is a plant type from the genus of orobanche ( Orobanche ) in the family of broomrape plants (Orobanchaceae).
description
Orobanche caesia is a parasitic plant whose stems are 10 to 35 cm high and 0.3 to 0.5 cm wide. At the base they are hardly swollen and are unbranched and hairy with glands. The numerous leaves are 8 to 17 mm long and ovate to lanceolate.
The inflorescences are 5 to 20 cm high and 2.5 to 4 cm wide, mostly densely built and covered with white glandular hair like a spider web. The bracts are 8 to 14 mm long and ovate-lanceolate, the prophylls are linear-lanceolate and shorter than the calyx . The flowers are sessile or almost sessile. The calyx is 9 to 14 mm long and has calyx teeth that are about as long as or longer than the calyx tube and are lanceolate. The crown is purple to blue-violet in color, 20 to 25 mm long, covered with glandular hair, almost upright at the base, bell-shaped to the front and more or less protruding. The lobes of the lower lip are elongated to ovate and blunt to pointed. The stamens are hairless or slightly hairy at the base and set about 6 to 8 mm above the crown base. The anthers are hairless. The scar is white.
The fruit is a capsule with a length of 7 to 9 mm.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence and locations
The species is distributed in east-central Europe, Romania, and southern and eastern parts of the former Soviet Union . It parasitizes on species of the genus Artemisia .
