Orphan Hate is a melodic death metal / thrash metal band from Berlin , Germany that was founded in 1996.

history

The band was founded in 1996 by Lars Simon (electric guitar), Steven Winckler (bass, vocals) and Mathias Gutschmidt (drums). All of the founding members have known each other since their early childhood and they founded the band through their common interest in music.

In 1997 Alexander Binus (guitarist of the black metal band Sengaja ) joined the band as the second guitarist. In addition, the band has now started performing in some Berlin youth clubs.

In 1998 the Orphan Hate demo was recorded in various youth facilities and distributed among friends.

In 1999 the band played a few small concerts in East Berlin, but they continued to be largely ignored.

In 2000 the band began their first tour of Russia . Steven Winckler now concentrated only on the vocals, while Jan Sadler (also a member of Sengaja) joined the band as the new bass player. Due to the success of the tour, the band achieved a good reputation in Russia and attracted increasing attention.

In 2001 the first album Proceed was released in-house and received a positive response from fans. Due to the poor sound quality of the album, there was no official release. Meanwhile, bassist Sadler arranged monthly concerts in and around Berlin.

In 2002 the band played again in Russia, in some suburbs of Moscow . The tour included seven appearances, which also attracted media interest. The band headlined this tour and played alongside seven other Russian bands. The band also played a concert in Warsaw ( Poland ).

In 2003 the band paused for two months and Sadler was able to concentrate more on his studies in Leipzig , while the rest of the band began some experiments unplugged, which also brought them first place in a band competition. In winter 2003 the band went back to the studio.

The result is the self-produced album Changes , which was released in spring 2004. After the album was recorded, the band split from guitarist Lars Simon and singer Steven Winckler. Marcus "Rooky" Forstbauer, studio and session guitarist, joined the band as the new guitarist. For a cover version of Get Busy by Sean Paul , Torsten Pfundt (singer of the friendly band Mors Cordis ) had a guest appearance. With his support and the collaboration with René legs and many other fans, a music video was created which enabled the band to take part in the Battle of the Bands contest on April 2, 2004 live at the interactive show on the music channel VIVA . At the beginning of May Sina Niklas joined the band as the new singer.

In 2005 the band worked on new song material, looked for a label and the 2005 demo promo was recorded .

In 2006 the band went to Freakwave Studios and began recording the first songs for an album. In addition, the bands continued to play concerts.

The album Blinded by Illusions was then completed in 2007. The artwork was done by Christian Bröhenhorst, ( Cripper guitarist ). After asking more than 100 labels, they finally found a label with Plainsong Records in 2008 and they finally released the album in early May 2008. Rajk Barthel, guitarist with the band Disillusion, was the music publisher . Following the release, the bands went on a tour through Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic .

In the summer of 2009 the band played at several festivals. Guitarist Marcus “Rooky” Forstbauer left the band this year to devote himself to his solo career and his new band Poised. A replacement was found in the Berlin guitarist Ramin Tehrani. Together with him, the band had their biggest performance so far at the Woodstock Festival in Poland. Songwriting for a new album also began, which is expected to be released across Europe in spring 2012.

Meaning of the name

The name "orphan hate" represents the awakening of young people in a world that is brutal, merciless and, moreover, devoid of love and compassion. Lyrically the band also deals with these topics.

style

The sound of the music is described as a mixture of Thrash Metal, Melodic Death Metal and Metalcore . The riffs of both guitarists, whose style is based on that of the band Nevermore , are particularly characteristic . The singing of singer Sina Niklas, who alternates between growls , shouts and sung passages , is also formative . Orphan Hate is compared to bands like Disturbed , Arch Enemy and In Flames .
