Ortwin Knorr

Ortwin Knorr (born February 12, 1966 in Bremen ) is a German classical philologist who works in the USA .

Knorr studied Classical Philology and Ancient History in Göttingen , Heidelberg and Berkeley . In 1992 he passed the state examination in Göttingen; In 1999 he also received his doctorate in Göttingen with the dissertation Hidden Art: Structure of Arguments and Book Structure in the Satires of Horace . His doctoral supervisor was Carl Joachim Classen , his co-supervisor Siegmar Döpp . After teaching positions at Berkeley, at Johns Hopkins University and Georgetown University , Knorr has been teaching at Willamette University in Oregon since 2001 ; since 2005 he has been Associate Professor of Classics there.

Knorr's research focus is the ancient Latin literature, especially the comedies of Terence and the odes and satires of Horace . In addition, he has also published essays on the writings of the Greek church fathers John of Damascus and Epiphanius of Salamis .
