The Willamette University is a private university in Salem , the capital of the US state of Oregon . The university has about 2,500 students, of which about 700 are in postgraduate programs. The university has faculties for art, law, economics and teacher training.

history

The university describes itself as the first university in the US American region West , it traces its history back to a high school founded in 1842 for the children of local missionaries and settlers, which has called itself a university since 1853, initially Wallamet University . Founded in 1883, the law school is the oldest in the Pacific Northwest , and the medical school now merged with the University of Oregon was also the first in the region.
