The Oregon Health and Science University OHSU is a government medical college in Portland in the US state of Oregon . The university is the largest employer in Portland with the main campus and the two university hospitals on it . A subsidiary campus is located in Hillsboro . There is close cooperation in the field of teaching with the universities of the Oregon University System .
history
The predecessor organization of today's university was Willamette University , School of Medicine in Salem, founded in 1867 . In 1913, Willamette University and the University of Oregon combined their medical education to form the University of Oregon schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and Nursing . In 1974, the faculties were then united to form a separate university, independent of the University of Oregon, under the name University of Oregon Health Sciences Center . Renamed Oregon Health Sciences University in 1981 , it became today's university in 2001, when it was merged with the OGI School of Science and Engineering .
