Osborn Bergin

Osborn Joseph Bergin (born November 26, 1873 in Cork , † October 6, 1950 in Dublin ) was an Irish linguist and one of the most important Celtologists . In his research he mainly dealt with the Irish language and Old Irish literature .

Bergin studied Celtology first at the Friedrich Wilhelms University (now the Humboldt University ) in Berlin and later with Rudolf Thurneysen at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau , where he completed his habilitation in 1906. He then returned to Ireland and taught at the School of Irish Learning and University College Dublin .
