Gordon E. Sawyer Award

The Gordon E. Sawyer Award is an honorary Oscar given by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to an individual for special achievements in the scientific and technical field of the film industry . The award is named after Gordon E. Sawyer , the technical director of the sound department at Samuel Goldwyn Studios and a member of the Academy's Scientific and Technical Awards Committee from 1936 to 1977. This prize was first awarded in 1981. This honorary award is not necessarily awarded every year, but only at the suggestion of the members of the Academy's Scientific / Technical Committee.
