Takuo Miyagishima

Takuo "Tak" Miyagishima (born March 15, 1928 in Gardena , California - † August 4, 2011 ) was an American development engineer for Panavision .

Life

Miyagishima was born in Gardena to Japanese immigrants from Shizuoka and grew up in Long Beach and Terminal Island . The family later moved to Utah . In 1954 he started to work at Panavision where he was responsible for the development of film cameras and lenses .

Awards

Miyagishima received the Oscar for technical merit in 1991 and 1999 , as well as the Fuji Gold Medal in 1991 . In 1999 he was awarded the John A. Bonner Medal by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences . In the same year he received the ASC President's Award from the American Society of Cinematographers . At the 77th Academy Awards , he received the Gordon E. Sawyer Award in 2005 .
