Oscar Ackeström (born November 29, 1972 in Gothenburg ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player .

Career

Ackeström began his career in the youth department of the Swedish first division club Frölunda Indians , for whose professional team he went on hold for the first time in the 1990/91 season. The defender initially played eight games for the Indians and was unable to achieve a scorer point. In the following years Ackeström did not manage to play his way into the regular squad and so he decided in the summer of 1996 to move to the Finnish club Rauman Lukko from the SM-liiga . The left shooter made his breakthrough at Lukko and the then 24-year-old was a member of the regular squad. The Swede played a total of 95 games in which he scored 45 points. After two seasons, the defender left the club and signed a contract with league rivals Ilves Tampere , with whom he played in the European Hockey League in 1998 . There, Oscar Ackeström and his new team finished bottom of the group and lost, among others, against the Eisbären Berlin with 1: 4. In the EHL, the defender was able to present himself well and scored four scorer points in six games.

In Tampere , too, Ackeström was able to continuously develop and increase his points. However, he was only under contract with the Ilves and then moved within the league to HPK Hämeenlinna , with whom he was able to win the bronze medal of the SM-liiga in the 1999/00 season. Ackeström then signed a two-year contract with the Hannover Scorpions from the German Ice Hockey League . With the Lower Saxony, the defender was able to advance to the play-off semi-finals in 2001 in his first season . After winning 3-0 games against Kölner Haie in the quarter-finals , they lost 3-0 in the semifinals. The Swede was used six times in the play-offs and scored four points. In addition, it had a plus / minus statistic of +2. After another playing year in Hanover , Ackeström initially moved back to his home club, the Frölunda Indians.

The defender, however, turned his back on the club after two years and 90 appearances and moved to the Swiss National League A , where he played for the traditional club HC Ambrì-Piotta . Despite good performances, Ackeström only made 13 appearances and twelve points scorer in the Ticino . In the following years he ran one season each for the second division HC Thurgau and for the two first division SC Langnau and the renowned club HC Davos , with whom he played in the 2006 European Champions Cup . The Swede was able to celebrate some successes with HC Davos as the team not only took third place in the European Champions Cup, but also achieved the Swiss runner- up. However, Ackeström was hardly used at this time. During the entire season he completed 21 games in which he scored seven points scorer.

The left shooter decided to change again for the 2006/07 season and, after a brief interlude, was hired by the Swedish club Linköpings HC , at his ex-club, the Frölunda Indians. He stayed there until 2008, before those in charge of the Hannover Scorpions took notice of him again and made the 36-year-old a contract offer that tied him to the club until 2009. From 2009 to 2011 he played for Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the Austrian ice hockey league . With the team he also took part in the playoffs of the Hungarian ice hockey league and won the national championship title with Alba Volán in 2010 and 2011 . Then he ended his career.
