Oscar Polk
Oscar Polk (born December 25, 1899 in Marianna , Arkansas , † January 4, 1949 in New York City ) was an American actor.
Live and act
Oscar Polk has worked primarily on Broadway throughout his acting career , starring in over a dozen plays, including hits like The Trial of Mary Dungan , Dark Eyes , You Can't Take It With You, and The Green Pastures . In the 1936 film adaptation of The Green Pastures in Hollywood, the Afro-American Polk again represented his role from Broadway. Although he only made eleven films, he was remembered for his supporting role as the nervous house slave Pork in the classic film Gone With the Wind (1939). Overall, however, his film offerings were rather meager, which is why he shot his last film in Hollywood in 1943 and turned back to the theater.
Ten days after his 49th birthday, on January 4, 1949, Polk fell from the curb in Times Square , whereupon he was knocked down by a taxi and died. He was buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Maspeth , Long Island . Oscar Polk was married to Ivy Parsons until his death and had a son, Oscar Polk Jr., with her.
