Oscar Weber (born November 25, 1868 in Zurich ; † August 7, 1952 in Zug ; legal domicile in Zurich) was a Swiss entrepreneur .

Family and education

Oscar Weber, son of the businessman Julius Weber (1838-1906), who in 1893 with other Zurich investors , founded in 1880 and in 1887 from the liquidation newly formed factory metal goods train took over the federal devoted himself after receiving matriculation the study of chemistry at the Federal Polytechnic Zurich In 1890 he moved to the University of Geneva , in 1892 he acquired the academic degree of Dr. phil.

Oscar Weber was married to Julia, the daughter of the liberal politician , industrialist and officer Arnold Künzli . Weber died in Zug in the summer of 1952 at the age of 84.

Professional background

Oscar Weber had been employed as a chemist in Berlin since 1893 after graduating , and in 1895 he joined the Zug Metallwarenfabrik, where he was appointed technical director in 1898, a position he held until 1910. In 1906 he was elected to the board of directors , of which he was chairman from 1910, and in 1951 he resigned. In 1913 Oscar Weber was one of the co-founders of the Zug AG galvanizing plant , which he chaired until his death.

Oscar Weber's commitment, who expanded his Pfyn estate in Valais into a model business, was also directed at the retail trade . He participated in department stores, including Brann AG in Zurich. He took over this in 1939, from 1941 he continued to run it under the name Oscar Weber AG until his death . Oscar Weber also acted as president of the associated EPA Neue Warenhaus AG and of Oscar Weber Holding AG, which in 1951 brought together all of the department store holdings .

Oscar Weber, who was chairman of the Association of Swiss Metal Goods Manufacturers from 1912 to 1925, introduced new methods of distribution in the merchandise trade, and he also advocated an understanding between retailers and department stores.
