Oseas Schadaeus

Oseas Schadaeus (* 1586 in Strasbourg , † 1626 in Strasbourg) was a Lutheran clergyman and chronicler in Alsace .

After his doctorate, he became pastor in various places in the region and finally from 1613 deacon to Alt-St.-Peter , from 1622 pastor at the Nikolaikirche in Strasbourg.

He was the author of the "Summum Argentoratensium templum" published in 1617, a "detailed and proper description of the. . . the world famous cathedral in Strasbourg ”. With its descriptions and copperplate engravings , the work was one of the first illustrated “ travel guides ” dedicated to just one place or building. It was published in Strasbourg by Lazari Zetzner's heirs.

Schadaeus was also a translator or editor of some historical works, u. a. a chronicle of Strasbourg. Schadaeus is the Latinized version of his German surname Schad .
