Oskaloosa is a small town in the US state of Kansas of the United States and the administrative center ( the county seat ) of Jefferson County . According to the 2000 census , 1165 people in 439 households live in Oskaloosa.
The Jefferson County Court is located in Town Square, making it the central point of the small town. Furthermore, various services can be found such as the Country Lanes (bowling), Gambino's Pizza (pizzeria), Thriftway Grocery Store (groceries), various petrol stations (including Caseys, butchers) and a few more. In addition, the place known affectionately as "Oskie" by its residents is also home to the Oskaloosa High School (Home of the Bears), which was one of the top 100 high schools in the USA in the 1990s (People Magazine). There is also an Oskaloosa Middle School (OMS) and an Oskaloosa Elementary School (OES). All three schools are interconnected and work closely together. The annual Old Settler's is a fun fair-like event that takes place in Town Square in summer.
