Oskar Jellinek
Oskar Jellinek (born January 22, 1886 in Brno , Austria-Hungary ; died October 12, 1949 in Los Angeles ) was an Austrian writer who stood out primarily with his short stories.
Life
Oskar Jellinek was born into a Jewish merchant family in Brno. He studied law in Vienna and was an officer in the First World War. Until 1919 he worked as a judge; then he gave up this job. From 1924 he lived in Vienna as a freelance writer.
Jellinek fled to Czechoslovakia after the annexation of Austria in 1938 and to Paris after the breakup of the CSR in 1939. When the Second World War broke out, he was interned in France. In 1940 he succeeded in emigrating to the USA.
