Among the native plants, it was especially the genera Carex and Valeriana that interested him. His main work were the eight volumes of The Farn and Flowering Plants of Baden-Württemberg , which were published by Eugen Ulmer in Stuttgart from 1990 to 1998 . His knowledge of plant sociology also made it possible to create several vegetation maps in Württemberg or to supplement others. Particular attention was paid to the parts of the botanical collection, which he brought together after the war losses and which he increased significantly by acquiring herbaria and his own collections inside and outside Europe. Sebald was also a consultant for nature conservation at the Society for Natural History in Württemberg for many years .
