Career

On the estate of Mojavolja Pejačević in the village Jarkovci the city of Indjija the region Srem in Vojvodina was his father steward. Oskar Sommerfeld was born here as a Danube Swabian. The academically trained artist lived and worked here and was best known for his landscape paintings from his closer home. He found recognition in the regional art scene and among art experts. So he was honored as the discoverer of the Syrmian landscape. The end and the confusion of the Second World War took him around in many intermediate stops in half of Europe. He found a second home in the Upper Austrian Hausruckviertel . Here he dealt with the persecution, flight and expulsion of the Danube Swabians from Syrmia after 1944 in his cycle of paintings Danube Swabian Passion .

He saw the exhibition of his works in the Palais Pálffy in Vienna as an artistic appreciation of his work. The natural beauties of the landscape of Upper Austria and especially the Hausruckviertel inspired him to paint more landscapes.
