history
In contrast to Victorbur, the place is still quite young. The local area was a wild heathland between the old villages of Walle and Victorbur until the late 18th century. This was used by the farmers of the two villages for peat extraction. Following the adoption of the Urbarmachungsediktes by King Frederick II. , Who in 1744 competed for power in East Friesland, in 1767 began in the Südbrookmer Bailiwick the colonization of East Victorbur. The Prussian administration divided up the desolate, undeveloped heath fields and moors and then awarded them to those willing to settle for the purpose of cultivation. The first two settlers came from the older part of Victorbur. Later, land use (old term for a farmer), Warfsfolk (owner of a house with a garden and some land) and workers were added. The village received a greater development boost through the construction of the ring canal, which was laid out from 1882 to 1887 and ensured better drainage of the moorland. The children attended school in neighboring West-Victorbur until 1896, after which a single-class school was set up in the village. For a long time, East Victorbur could only be reached via sand or waterways. The village street was not paved until 1928. Further infrastructure measures were the connection to the electricity network (1954) and to the water network (1959). The school closed in 2002.
Development of the place name
Victorbur is an old street village that developed from today's Westvictorburer Straße to tom-Brok-Straße. Originally Ost-Victorbur referred to the eastern part of this settlement. When the area east of Tom Brok Street began to be settled in the late 18th century, the name East Victorbur was transferred to the new settlement, while the old East Victorbur became part of West Victorbur. The name appears for the first time in church records in 1773.
