The Ostwalde farmers are located in the areas of the town of Hörstel and the municipality of Hopsten in the Tecklenburger Land region . It is therefore in the Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

In the past, the farmers belonged to the Hopsten district and were a Hopsten farmers. The Ostenwald was mentioned in the first document in which Hopsten von Schapen became self-employed. This included the area of ​​southern Hopsten and Ostenwalde. Due to border adjustments, the border between the towns of Hopsten and Hörstel has been moved further towards Hopsten. Since the Münster / Hamm law in 1975, Ostenwalde has been a Hörsteler peasantry. The border between the town of Hörstel and the municipality of Hopsten run right next to the Christ the King Chapel, which still stands on Hörsteler Grund. Other surrounding villages are Dreierwalde , which also belongs to the town of Hörstel, Uffeln , which belongs to Ibbenbüren , and Obersteinbeck , which belongs to Recke .

Ostenwalde station

The Tecklenburger Nordbahn runs south of Ostenwalde . The Ostenwalde (Westf.) Train station was located there until passenger traffic was discontinued in 1970 and is now used as a residential building. West of Ostenwalde was the Hopsten air base until mid-2006 , from which the Fighter-Bomber Squadron 36 "Westphalia" and later the Fighter Squadron 72 "Westphalia" operated. This base was closed at the end of 2005 as part of the reorganization of the Bundeswehr.

The Hörsteler Aa flows through Ostenwalde. There at the former Fislager Mühle the never completed Bodelschwingh tunnel flows into the Aa.

The Ostenwalde Citizens' Rifle Club has been based in Ostenwalde since 1919. Once a year on Corpus Christi the well-attended shooting festival, which is well known far beyond the local borders, takes place. Unlike many other clubs in the area, the Ostenwalder shoot their rifle king on a target.

In addition, the Winter Shooting Festival takes place once a year in the shooting hall built by the members themselves. This is also used for private celebrations throughout the year.
