Osvaldo Dorticós
Osvaldo Dorticós Torrado (born April 17, 1919 in Cienfuegos , † June 23, 1983 in Havana ) was a Cuban politician and from July 17, 1959 to December 2, 1976 President of the Republic of Cuba.
Osvaldo Dorticós was a lawyer and member of the Cuban Revolutionary Movement of July 26th . In 1958 he was arrested for this. He emigrated to Mexico and returned to Cuba after the victory of the Cuban Revolution in 1959. In 1976 he was replaced by Fidel Castro as President of the Republic of Cuba, while Dorticós became a member of the State Council. In 1983 he was shot dead; He suffered from a painful chronic disease of the spine and, since the death of his wife a few months earlier, from depression .
