Oswald Bär ( Latinized Oswaldus Beerus ; * 1482 in Brixen , † 1567 in Basel ) was a physician , university professor and city ​​doctor .

Life

Bär studied at the universities of Vienna and Freiburg im Breisgau and in 1509 worked as a teacher at the Latin School in Schlettstadt . Probably in 1510 he came to Basel, where he continued his studies and in 1512 became a Dr. med. received his doctorate. In 1513 the University of Basel appointed him full professor of medicine. In 1528 he also became a city doctor in Basel. In 1534 the University of Basel appointed him professor of (superordinate) practical medicine after setting up another chair. In 1532, 1544 and 1550, Bär was the rector of the University of Basel.

Bär conducted the world's first public anatomy in 1531 in Basel.
