Oswald I. von dem Bergh
Oswald von der Leck (born February 28, 1442 in 's-Heerenberg , today a district of Montferland , † May 3, 1511 in Zaltbommel ) was the ruling Count of the Bergh .
Life
Oswald and his father Wilhelm II (his mother was Countess Luitgard von Bentheim ) laid the foundation for the not insignificant splendor of his house in Geldrischen and Klevischen in the 16th century . He excelled in the turmoil between the Geldrian Duke Arnold and his son Adolf . He was one of the leaders of the national party facing the latter, which successfully opposed Burgundian and Austrian power. But he also knew how to get on well with his opponents and was raised to the rank of imperial count in 1486 , although after Adolf's death he mostly sided with Karl von Egmond . The difficult situation of his possessions forced him to change parties repeatedly; but he does not seem to have been free from the accusation of self-interest and unreliability that adhered to almost his entire house. He died in 1511.
Oswald was married on December 20, 1456 in Moers to Elisabeth von Moers (1442–1493), a daughter of Count Vinzenz von Moers-Saarbaren (1414–1499). Your children were:
- Anna (1466–1553) ∞ Johann III. from Moers-Saar Werden
- William III. (1468–1511) ∞ Anna von Egmond-Herpen († 1517)
- Mechtild (1470–1539) ∞ Friedrich von Bronckhorst
- Friedrich (1474-1513)
- Walburg (1476–1547) ∞ Heinrich V. von Wisch
