Ota Hemele (born January 22, 1926 in Prague ; † May 31, 2001 there ; more rarely Otto Hemele or Otakar Hemele ) was a Czech football player . He played ten international matches for Czechoslovakia and took part in the 1954 World Cup.

Career

Ota Hemele started playing football at the age of 11 in the Radlice district of Prague . At the age of 15, the striker played for the first team of Radlický AFK . 1941 Sparta Prague wanted to commit the talent, but only for the junior team. The officials of the Radlický AFK refused.

In December 1942 Slavia asked Prague and had Hemele auditioned in the first team. The 16-year-old convinced and made his debut in January 1943 in a test match against SK Slaný. Slavia won 9-1 while Hemele, who played alongside Josef Bican , scored five goals. In his first year with Slavia, Hemele became Czech champion. In the 1943/44 season, the young striker scored 22 goals, only his strike partner Bican was more successful with 39 goals. At the beginning of 1947, Hemele was transferred to SK Židenice in exchange for Zdeněk Sobotka , but the unsuccessful operation was reversed after only a few months. Even if he only played the first half of the season for Slavia, Hemele could look forward to his second championship.

In the summer of 1948, for political reasons and at the behest of communist functionaries, he was appointed to the cadre of the newly formed ATK Prague Army Association, although at that time as a law student he had the right to postpone his call-up. In the 1950 season, Hemele was allowed to return to Slavia, which was now called Dynamo Prague and suffered from the disapproval of the communist regime. In 1951 Dynamo was relegated, Hemele played a year in the second division and in 1953 had to switch again to the army club, which had since been renamed ÚDA Prague . After only one season, Hemele was allowed to return to Slavia, but the great times were over. In 1958/59 it was enough for third place.

Between 1948 and 1954, Hemele wore the dress of the Czechoslovak national team ten times . In his second game, on October 31, 1948 in Bratislava in a 3-1 win against Austria , he scored two goals, as well as in his third game on March 23, 1949 at the same location in a 2-2 win against Luxembourg . Hemele played his last game for Czechoslovakia on June 19, 1954 at the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland .

After this season, Hemele moved to Spartak Prague Motorlet , where he became player-coach. In 1963/64 the team was promoted to the first division, in which, however, they could only hold out for one season. Ota Hemele ended his career in June 1965.

In the top division Ota Hemele scored 133 goals and is thus member number 15 in the club of goal scorers, the club ligových kanonýrů . For Slavia Prague he scored 274 goals in 332 games.

After his time as a player, Ota Hemele worked as a football coach at Motorlet Prague , Spartak Hradec Králové , AEL Limassol , ČSAD Benešov and Admira Kobylisy (1985). He played for the old men's team from Slavia Prague and was a representative for the club. In the early 1990s, under Boris Korbel , he was also the head of the football department.

Ota Hemele died on May 31, 2001 in the Motol Hospital in Prague.
