Otacilia loriot is an Asiatic species in the genus Otacilia within the family Phrurolithidae .

features

The first description was only based on a male. The animal is 1.9 mm long. The foreleg is 0.95 mm long and 0.75 mm wide. The color is mentioned as different shades of brown in the description with reference to photos. The front of the body and the leg links femur, patella and tibia are dark brown, the remaining leg links are yellow-brown. The abdomen is also dark brown dorsally, light gray-brown ventrally and has a large light spot over the spinnerets. The species is differentiated from other species of the genus by a single bristle present on the chelicerae. Only Otacilia bicolor also has only one bristle on the chelicerae. O. loriot is distinguished from this on the basis of the retrolateral tibial apophysis of the palpus. With O. loriot this is more pointed and narrower. Furthermore, the animals have an anterior hump on the tibia of the palpus. In O. loriot this hump is more proximal, in O. bicolor more distal.

distribution and habitat

Otacilia loriot occurs in Laos. As is known with other species of the genus, it is assumed that it has only a very small range. The species occurs in the litter layer under deciduous trees on flowing waters.

Discovery and naming

The species was collected in 2008 by a team from the Frankfurt Research Institute Senckenberg on a tributary of the Mekong in Laos . Peter Jäger and Jörg Wunderlich, employees of the institute, named the art in 2012 after the German humorist Vicco von Bülow, better known under the stage name Loriot . According to Jäger, Loriot “always looked for the comic in normal, everyday life. So I found it appropriate to name a spider after him that at first glance doesn't show anything special. "" A stone louse would have been more appropriate. "

The species was found sifting through leaves. So far only the male is known.
