Otava Yo ( Cyrillic Отава Ё) is a Russian folk-rock band from Saint Petersburg , which was founded in 2003 and combines “Celtic” music with Russian folk songs.

Band history

Alexei Belkin, Alexei Skosyrew, Dmitri Schichardin and Petr Sergejew played as street musicians from 2000 , mainly in their hometown of Saint Petersburg. Of them only Shichardin had been trained as a musician. Belkin and Shosyrew also played with ReelroadЪ, which describes their music as post- folk , and Schichardin and Sergejew with Скаэы леса. In 2003 they decided to appear as a quintet under the name Otava Yo , which means something like " Grummet ", so the second, better hay harvest in late summer - this means that the band improves musical templates through their arrangements. The band initially played Irish instrumental music before turning to Russian songs in a new interpretation. Otava Yo is known for her humorous appearances and videos. The male members sometimes appeared in fur hats and fine rib undershirts.

The band often plays abroad, including at the 2015 Bardentreffen in Nuremberg and in 2016 at the WOMAD Festival in Charlton Park, UK .
