The Oti Wildlife Reserve ( English Oti Valley Faunal Reserve ) is located in northern Togo at an altitude of 109 to 167 m above sea level . It is 147,840 hectares in size. Neighboring nature reserves are the Kéran National Park , the Pendjari National Park and the Arli - W -Singou complex.
The area is covered by savannah and seasonally flooded grasslands on both sides of the Oti River . One of the main habitats is the river area overgrown by trees such as Diospyros mespiliformis and Anogeissus leiocarpa , and shrubs such as Mimosa pigra and Mitragyna inermis . Andropogon , hyparrhenia and heteropogon species predominate among grasses, with the Ethiopian palmyra palm in between . The isolated savannah spots are dominated by acacia and long thread species as well as the tamarind tree and the desert date . Forest makes up 35% and shrubland 61% of the area.
The Oti Valley is known nationwide for its large populations of wetland birds, for example up to 250 crowned cranes , 250 gray herons , 200 white storks , 300 spurge geese and 100 red-winged curlews .
The main threats to the reserve are settlement, firewood gathering, poaching and possible changes in the Oti due to the construction of the Kompienga Dam in Burkina Faso on the Oualé , a tributary of the Oti.
