Otis Lee Birdsong (born December 9, 1955 in Winter Haven , Florida ) is a retired American basketball player .

After a very successful college career at the University of Houston , Birdsong was drawn in 2nd place in the 1977 NBA draft by the Kansas City Kings . The Guard quickly developed into an excellent scorer and scored 24.9 points per game in the 1980-81 season. Between 1979 and 1981, three appointments to the NBA All-Star Game followed . From 1981 he played for seven years for the New Jersey Nets , where he was called up again in the All-Star Game in 1984, and one year for the Boston Celtics . He retired early in 1989 and returned to Houston, where he annotated games at his former university. In his honor, jersey number 10 was banned from the university. He was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 2018.

Birdsong scored 18.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game during his career.
