Life

When the jobs for freelance cameramen in Hamburg became rarer, he returned to Saarbrücken. He passed the master's examination as a shoemaker and took over his father's business in 1980. There he and his son Johannes introduced special custom-made products that sold well.

At first, as a hobby, he took up watercolor painting in the early 1980s , surprisingly won a prize from the city of Sarreguemines and had exhibitions in the Püttlinger Schlösschen and the Neuheisel gallery . He also made a name for himself as a photo artist and ran a gallery with his wife Karin for several years.

Herges Schuhmanufaktur has been run by Johannes Herges in the third generation since 2008. Otmar Herges withdrew from the business and in 2014 published the short crime collection Shit happens - Crime Stories in the Austrian Novum Verlag .
