Oto Luthar (born August 11, 1959 in Murska Sobota , Yugoslavia , now Slovenia ) is a Slovenian historian .

He studied at the University of Ljubljana , where he received his doctorate in 1992. Since 1992 he has been the director of the Scientific Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. He also taught at the Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Maribor . In 1999/2000 he was visiting professor at Yale University .
