Ottó Abbot (General)

Ottó Abt (born October 21, 1889 , † September 10, 1946 ) was a Hungarian major general in the Army in World War II . In 1992 he was promoted posthumously to lieutenant general.

Life

Abbot completed an officer training and then found employment as an officer and staff officer of the army (Magyar Szárazföldi Haderő) . From February 1, 1933 to May 1, 1937, he was in command of the 1st Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Regiment and as such was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel (Alezredes) on November 1, 1933 . Subsequently he was between May 1, 1937 and February 1, 1938 for the 12th Infantry Regiment and received in this function on November 1, 1937 his promotion to colonel (Ezredes) , whereupon he was from February 1, 1938 to February 1 1941 was the commander of the 12th Infantry Regiment. He was then deputy commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade between February 1 and May 1, 1941.

After his promotion to major general (Vezérőrnagy) on May 1, 1941, during the Second World War, from May 1 to November 1, 1941, Abbot was first in command of the 8th Infantry Brigade deployed on the Eastern Front and then between November 1, 1941 and January 1942 Commander of the 108th Infantry Brigade, also deployed on the Eastern Front. Subsequently he was commander of the 108th Light Division from February to October 15, 1942, before joining the III. Division between October 15, 1942 and his retirement on February 1, 1943. Corps was seconded to the Eastern Front. After the war ended, he was sentenced to death as a war criminal by the Soviet occupation forces of the Red Army and executed on September 10, 1946.

Abbot was rehabilitated on October 18, 1991 and posthumously promoted to Lieutenant General (Altábornagy) on January 12, 1992 .
