Otto Foky

Ottó Foky (* 15. June 1927 in Sárhida ; † 3 September 2012 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian graphic artist , film puppet designer and animation director .

Life

After a pedagogical training, Foky first worked as an art teacher. The illustration and creation of picture stories played an important role in his classes. He then began studying at the Magyar Iparművészeti Főiskola , now Moholy-Nagy Művészeti Egyetem in Budapest, which he graduated in 1956 with a diploma in puppet animation and stage design . From 1956 to 1962 he worked at the Pannónia Stúdió . There he worked with the animation director István Imre. In the early 1960s he took part in several Hungarian art exhibitions in Prague , Belgrade and Stockholm . Since 1962 he worked as an animation director. In the 1970s and 1980s he produced numerous cartoon series for Hungarian television . These were mainly fairy tale, children's and advertising films. Classical figures such as A legkisebb ugrifüles , Mirr-Murr , Misi Mókus or Tévé Maci were created . Foky's films have been shown at many European film festivals. In the 1990s, Foky retired, but continued to work with his wife Emmi as an illustrator of fairy tale books. His work has been awarded more than twenty prizes.
