Ottmar von Holtz (born September 27, 1961 in Gobabis , South West Africa ) is a German - Namibian politician ( Greens ), economist and member of the German Bundestag since 2017 .

Von Holtz lives in the city of Hildesheim , is divorced and has two children.

education and profession

From 1982 to 1983 von Holtz studied economics (B.Comm) at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and until 1988 with a degree in economics from today's Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover .

In 1988 von Holtz was a lecturer in statistics and econometrics at the University of Namibia , then - after returning to Hanover - until 2005 he was a speaker and head of department at the Lower Saxony State Office for Statistics, now known as the State Office for Statistics Lower Saxony .

From 2005 until the election to the state parliament, von Holtz was a speaker in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics .

In 1978, Holtz's political interest led him to become a youth member of the Republican Party in Namibia. Due to the South African colonial history in Namibia, von Holtz did not do military service in the army of South Africa. During his studies in Hanover, von Holtz was active in the so-called Third World work from 1984 to 1989, especially in the Africa Initiative in Hanover. In 1985, together with students from Hanover, he founded the “Green Alternative Youth Hanover”, the forerunner of today's Green Youth in Hanover. 1989, during the stay in Namibia anti-apartheid activities, u. a. as a founding member of the first left-wing Namibian teachers' union (NANTU). Since 2004, von Holtz has been a member of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party .

With the local elections in Lower Saxony in 2011 , von Holtz was elected as a member of the district council of the Hildesheim district. With the state election in 2013 he was elected as a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament via the state list of the Greens . In the 2017 federal election , Ottmar von Holtz took 6th place on the Lower Saxony state list of Greens and entered the German Bundestag on September 24, 2017 as one of 67 members of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party.

From February 3 to 8, 2019, he visited his native Namibia as part of a German delegation .

In the 19th German Bundestag , Holtz is chairman of the subcommittee for civil crisis prevention, conflict management and networked action. He is also chairman of the Committee on Economic Development and Cooperation and is a full member of the Global Health subcommittee. Holtz is represented as a deputy member in the joint committee and in the defense committee.
