Otto-Rudolf Rothbart

Otto-Rudolf Rothbart (born March 15, 1928 in Stralsund ; † October 6, 2019 in Eningen and others ) was a German librarian.

Life

Rothbart grew up in Stralsund, in 1945 he fled to Denmark via the Baltic Sea. In 1947 he returned to Germany and began training as a qualified librarian in Stuttgart . From 1950 he studied German in Tübingen and Stuttgart. From 1951 to 1954 he built the library of the America House in Tübingen and became chief librarian there. He then went to the Stuttgart City Library as a librarian , where he was chief editor and head of the center for inventory creation and indexing. He then spent the longest period of service from 1964 to 1991 at the ekz (purchasing center) in Reutlingen . Initially he was a lecturer and editor there, and from 1974 librarian director. In 1969 he founded the ekz information service, in 1976 he helped set up the cooperation between the German library association , the professional association for information library and the ekz. He succeeded in centralizing the viewing of the book market and the creation of meetings for the public libraries at the ekz. In 1991 he retired. He was one of the central figures in the post-war library system.
