Otto-Werner Marquardt

Otto-Werner Marquardt (born December 20, 1944 in Bad Bevensen , Uelzen district , Lower Saxony ) is a German agricultural scientist, association official and president of the German Society for Zuchtungskunde (DGfZ) 2010–2019. He has been Honorary President since 2019

Live and act

Marquardt grew up on his parents' farm. After graduating from school in 1963, he completed an agricultural apprenticeship and studied agricultural science at the engineering school for agriculture in Celle and the University of Göttingen . The final doctorate to Dr. agr. followed with the dissertation on the topic: Selection criteria for the Lower Saxon herdbook pig breeding in 1974. The subsequent internship with the completion of the second state examination and topic of the approval work: Status, problems and development possibilities of the Hanoverian black and white breed ended in 1976.

After two years in the Lower Saxony Ministry of Agriculture, Marquardt joined the Zuchtrinder -zeugergemeinschaft Hannover e. G. a and in 1979 became its breeding manager and general manager. The Hanover Chamber of Agriculture appointed him at the same time as animal breeding consultant and in 1984 as the then youngest animal breeding director in Germany. In 32 years of professional activity, Marquardt has developed the old-style herdbook company into a modern, export-oriented marketing company, Masterrind , of which he was the founding managing director.

At the end of 2009 Marquardt went into professional retirement, but retained the chairmanship of the Uelzener Tierversicherung supervisory board. In 2010 he was elected to the presidency of the DGfZ , which he has held since then.
