Otto Gardner

Otto Gardner (* around 1950) is an American jazz musician ( double bass ).

Live and act

Gardner came to New York's loft scene in the 1970s. During this time he worked a. a. with Arthur Rhames ; The first recordings were made in 1985 with pianist Ray Rettig. In 1992 he was a founding member of the Schenectady- based Empire Jazz Orchestra , to which he was a member for 22 years and where he performed with guests such as Jimmy Heath , Lew Soloff , Curtis Fuller , Rufus Reid and Benny Golson .

He is currently a member of the formation Scatter the Atoms That Remain , with Jovan Alexandre (tenor saxophone), Davis Whitfield (piano) and Franklin Kiermyer (drums), with whom he also toured in Germany. In the field of jazz he was involved in ten recording sessions between 1985 and 2015, among others with Dan Dobek ( The Coat of Many Colors , 1994), Erica Lindsay ( Yes (Live at the Rosendale Cafe) , 2001), Colleen Pratt & The Empire Jazz Orchestra, Brian Patneaude and Franklin Kiermyer ( Closer to the Sun ).

After previously teaching in the northwestern states, California and Canada, he has been an associate professor in the jazz department of Bard College since 2010 .
