Otto Hirschmann

Otto Heinrich Hirschmann (born January 14, 1889 in St. Gallen ; † April 27, 1962 in Bad Ragaz ) was a Swiss-Dutch art historian and art dealer .

Otto Hirschmann attended grammar school in Sankt Gallen and from 1909 studied art history in Munich, Berlin, Paris and Basel . In Basel he received his doctorate in 1913 under Ernst Heidrich with a thesis on Hendrik Goltzius . From 1914 to 1920 he was assistant to Cornelis Hofstede de Groot in The Hague and worked on volumes 7 to 10 of his descriptive and critical catalog of the works of the most outstanding Dutch painters of the 17th century . From 1920 until it closed in 1934, he managed the branch of the Berlin art dealer Galerie Van Diemen & Co. in The Hague. After that he worked as an independent art dealer.
