Otto Hummel

Otto Hummel (born December 15, 1892 in Kirchheim unter Teck ; † July 16, 1980 in Düsseldorf ) was a German economist and rector of the University of Posen from 1942 to 1945.

Life

Otto Hummel was the son of a master craftsman. In 1913 he began to study economics at the Mannheim University of Commerce and at the University of Frankfurt / Main, which he interrupted because of his participation in the First World War. In 1913 he became a member of the Corps Hansea Mannheim. From 1914 to 1918 he served as a war volunteer in an artillery regiment, most recently as a lieutenant in the reserve. After the war, he graduated in 1919 as a graduate in business administration and was in 1921 at the University of Frankfurt am Main Dr. rer. pole. PhD . He was then a research assistant at the Berlin School of Management until 1926 and a part-time advisor at the Reich Ministry of Finance in 1922/23. He completed his habilitation in 1926 and from 1929 was a full professor of business administration at the Königsberg Commercial College .

After the seizure of power , Hummel joined the NSDAP in 1933 . Hummel was Rector of the Königsberg Commercial College in 1934/35, and since 1935 Prorector and Lecturer Association Leader at the Königsberg Commercial College . He was known as an active National Socialist and since 1936 political leader in the Gaurechtsamt of the Gauleitung East Prussia . After the beginning of the Second World War, Hummel served as a reserve captain in the Wehrmacht in 1939/40. In 1941 he was appointed full professor at the newly founded University of Poznan and appointed dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science. In 1944 he joined the SA and was promoted to SA Obersturmbannführer . In 1944/45 he was rector of the University of Posen. In the final phase of the war, Hummel was drafted into the Wehrmacht again and took part in the last battles for Berlin.

After the Second World War , Hummel was a prisoner of war in 1945/46. From 1946 he worked as an economic consultant in Greven . He has taught as a lecturer at the Administration Academy in Bochum since 1949, and since 1952 he has had a teaching position at the TU Braunschweig . From 1954 to 1958 he was honorary professor for business administration at the TU Braunschweig. In 1959, Hummel retired.
