Otto Kübler (born July 14, 1907 in Böblingen ; † May 26, 1992 in Marbach am Neckar ) was a German native and animal painter .

Life

Otto Kübler was the son of a city tax collector. He spent his childhood in Großbottwar . In 1914 the family moved to Nürtingen . Here he came to school, attended the Realprogymnasium until his confirmation and then began as an apprentice typesetter at the Nürtinger Tagblatt (today the Nürtinger Zeitung ). But this work didn't fill him up, designing something himself has always been his dream. When the opportunity arose to learn wood carving in a furniture factory, he took it. At the end of the day he carved animals. In the difficult time after the First World War, it was difficult for him to continue his education. He was therefore only able to attend the arts and crafts school in Stuttgart for one semester. Since the animals he wanted to carve had to be drawn first, he also engaged in painting. When he became unemployed in the late 1920s, he began to paint. In addition to landscapes, especially animals were his favorite motif. This was also the beginning of his actual self-study, which made him a true artist in animal painting. As a soldier in the Balkans and in Greece during World War II, he used crayons and charcoal to capture landscapes and animals when time allowed. After returning from the war, he set up a small studio in his house in Nürtingen. In 1964 he moved back to Grossbottwar with his sister Hedwig. There he continued his artistic work in the nature around Wunnenstein and Harzberg. Otto Kübler died on May 26, 1992 after a three-year stay in the senior citizens' home in Marbach.

Exhibitions

A first exhibition of his early pictures took place in the Nürtingen grammar school before the Second World War and encouraged him to continue working as a freelance artist. Exhibitions in the Nürtinger Stadthalle made Otto Kübler popular with his animal and landscape pictures of the sheep pastures around the Hohenneuffen or the Balinger Alb, especially since his modesty set very low prices for his pictures. With an exhibition of over 50 pictures in the Ludwigsburg district office in the spring of 1972, he became known as an art and animal painter beyond the Bottwartal. A large exhibition with Kübler's life's work took place in 2007 on the occasion of his 100th birthday in the foyer of the Großbottwar town hall.
